Shirley Holmes, 12 Jahre alt, Urgroßnichte des berühmten Detektiven Sherlock Holmes und nichts kann sie stoppen, einen Fall zu lösen. Shirley verfügt über eine ausgeprägte Beobachtungsgabe, ist furchtlos, schlagfertig und kann, wenn es darauf ankommt, ganz schön frech sein. Einen Doktor Watson hat sie zwar nicht als Assistenten dafür aber Bo (Boris) der nach anfänglicher Skepsis gegenüber ihren Methoden bald unentbehrlich wird. Dem Geheimnis ihrer Herkunft kommt Shirley auf die Spur, als sie eines Tages beim Stöbern auf dem Dachboden eine alte Truhe entdeckt. Im Inneren findet sie einen Brief ihres berühmten Urgroßonkels. Den Finder des Briefes hat er sich allerdings ganz anders vorgestellt.

Molly and Stink are accused of stealing exam questions. Stink gets kicked out of the Academy and sets out to become a stand-up comic.

Mr. Howie stays at the Howie Farm, but when he stays their longer than he had expected, Shirley has questions. Not only do the animals on the farm act nuts, but there is a ghost legend, and a feud between the Howies and the Wilkinsons.

Shirley receives a message that her Grandmother has been kidnapped. As Shirley looks for her Grandmother, her own friends think that she was abducted.
